Tiredne farmers are situated in the Eastern highlands province on the border of Kainantu and Henganofi districts. They are about some 10 kilometers South-East of Henganofi Station, away from the main highway, about an hour’s walk.
Coffee farms are located along the mountain ranges and are at the altitude range of 1786-1878 meters above sea level. The soil is mainly brown loam where coffee farming takes place.
Tiredne cooperative group has a membership of over 200 farmers and they organically grow all their coffees. They produce over 200 parchment bags every year. About 22 females and 55 males have attended quality training conducted by the Coffee Industry Corporation Ltd under a Participatory Rural Appraisal Program (PRAP).
The farmer group has a good storage house where the group store their dried parchment coffee bags before marketing. All Papua New Guinea coffees are washed processed before drying.
Tiredne coffees were assessed by the Five Senses Coffee in Perth and Melbourne and results show very good cup attributes and scores at the average of 84.25 points; delicate lick of acidity, tea-like body, very fresh tasting, fizzy, lemon acid, a good mouth feel, lychee and clean.
This is a very good specialty coffee that has big potential to fetch better prices in the specialty markets to improve the livelihood of the people. A few overseas specialty markets have shown interest on this coffee.
